Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is the closest major airport to Sayulita. The drive north along the coast usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour, longer at busy times of day. Here are the usual options.
Private transfer
A pre-booked private driver meets you at arrivals and takes you straight to your door. It costs more than the alternatives, but it is the simplest choice for families, groups with luggage, late arrivals and anyone who wants to stop for groceries on the way. For early-morning departures, arrange your ride the day before.
Airport taxi
Official airport taxis operate from inside the terminal and charge set fares by destination zone. Confirm the price before you get in, and have pesos available, as cash is commonly expected.
Bus
Regional buses run between the Puerto Vallarta area and Sayulita through the day. It is by far the cheapest option and a reasonable one for light travellers, but it stops along the way and takes longer than a car.
Ride-hailing apps
Don’t count on ride-hailing apps for this trip: they do not operate reliably in Sayulita, and airport pickup rules can change. A pre-arranged driver is the dependable choice.
Tips for a smooth arrival
- Walk past the timeshare and tour sellers inside the arrivals hall; your driver or the official taxi desk is what you are looking for.
- Keep your accommodation address and a contact number handy offline.
- Share your flight number with your driver so they can track delays.
- If you plan to rent a car, the coastal highway is straightforward in daylight; avoid unfamiliar roads after dark.
